Today will be a cooking marathon. Since Jon and I weren't able to go home for Thanksgiving, we are getting together with the other students down here who also weren't able to go home. We're doing sort of a "pot luck" type dinner. I am bringing a pasta salad, garden salad, and apple pie.
Nothing too exciting, but I am a little nervous about making the apple pies. I have never actually baked a pie before and I meant to experiment this past weekend, but I never got around to it. Hopefully nothing goes majorly wrong today, otherwise it will be store bought apple pie instead of homemade... :) Maybe I'll get a frozen one, and bake it at home so everyone thinks I did it myself. :) Juuuuust kidding of course... Well, kind of kidding. Haha!
Do any of you have any pie baking tips for me?!

The pie shouldn't be that hard. The worst part would be the crust & you can buy those pie dough things at the grocery store- good and no one knows the difference!
Also, if you are feeling really fancy, put a little egg wash (an egg and a splash of water mixed & then brushed) over the top of upper pie crust- it will be all pretty and golden!
Remember to bake the pie shell for a few minutes before putting in a filling! And, to get an even shell, put parchment paper over the shell and layer with dried beans before cooking for those few minutes (it distributes the heat more evenly?)
I would totally buy pre-made dough. I almost always do, and no one ever seems to know the difference!
if you don't want to make homemade pie crusts, Marie Callendar's frozen pie crusts are the best store bought I've had. Super buttery - yummy!
We are making a pumpkin pie tomorrow...Should be interesting. I have never made a pie either!
If you have to buy one, look for the one that comes with the cinnabon icing to go on top! I can't remember who makes it, but it is delicious!
Good luck with your cooking, sounds like a fun time!
Have a Happy Thanksgiving!!!

I'm a novice baker too so I won't try to give you any tips! I'm sure your pies will turn out delicious though :)
I hope you have a fantastic thanksgiving! Even though you won't be home with family, I think it'll be a nice bonding time with new friends.
